Ps 27:1 -3 The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war should rise against me, In this I will be confident.
This morning I had just finished praying with a dear brother in the Lord. We were talking about how Christ dwells in us and is with us all the time. Isn’t it great that we don’t have to conjure Him up, or put on a show for Him, but He is with us and is on our side? This Sunday morning I will be preaching from Psalm 27. Today I just want to share a few thoughts with you from the first three verses and pray that you will know that God is your protector and is on your side.
David was a leader and a warrior. He had to know with out a doubt that God was on his side. But most of all David was a lover. He was a lover of God and that is how he knew God so intimately and knew that he could trust God to be on his side at all times.
Last Saturday night J.J. and I watched a news show and the focus of this show was on how vulnerable that the power grid in the United States is to getting knocked out by our country’s enemies. It could happen due to a nuclear device being set off in outer space at just the right altitude. It could happen by an assault on one of our power stations by a group of terrorists. Also someone could use a cell phone and set off an explosive device within one of these facilities and we could be set back almost two hundred years, or more. This was quiet scary. It was said that if this happened 9 out of 10 people would die within a year in our country.
I am glad that the Lord has a solution to this situation. It is for us to draw near to Him. When we draw near to Him He will take care of us. He is our light when every power plant on the face of the earth will not generate power anymore. I also believe that if we as a nation turn to Him that this is a threat that is not to hard for Him. David faced enemies that had superior military forces to him, but when he walked close to the Lord God always provided the victory for him and for Israel. The Philistines were known for being advanced in metal works. Their skills as blacksmiths and metalworkers provided more advanced weaponry that the Israelites, but David walked with God and he knew that he did not have to fear the advanced weaponry of the Philistines. He trusted in God to protect him from his enemies.
David asked two questions in this passage; “Whom shall I fear? And of whom shall I be afraid.” When he asked the first one he answers that question with a statement of faith. The Lord is the strength of my life. Who or what is the strength of your life today? Is it your country? I love of my country, but it can’t be the strength of my life. Is it your favorite sports team, or hobby? How about your job, your, house, your car, your spouse, your family? All of those things that I just mentioned are supposed to be blessings and gifts from God, but they can’t be the strength of our lives.
Now he answers his second question “of whom shall I be afraid” by remembering a time when God had given him a victory when things had looked pretty rough, and perhaps even hopeless. How about you today? Can you remember a time that God came through for you when it looked naturally like there was no way? Can you remember a time when the voices of discouragement were coming and saying that’s it God has forgotten you? God wants to remind you today that He is on your side. God wants you to know that no adversary that you have is even a smidgeon of force against His power and His love for you. David knew the solution. He didn’t focus on the enemy, but he focused on God: Ps 27:4 “One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple.” Today the enemy will try to get you to think that the problem is bigger than the solution. The Apostle Paul had this to say “Ro 8:31,37-39 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Let Us Pray
Oh it is good to have the God of the universe on our side. We praise you Father-Son and Holy Ghost for being with us. We praise You that our future is not in the hands of our adversaries, but in Your hands on God.
In Jesus Name
Amen
Rejoice in the Lord always again I say rejoice!
